Best Ever GCSE Results in Neath Port Talbot: 60% barrier broken for the first time ever

Neath Port Talbot schools have achieved their best ever performances at GCSE level. Provisional data indicates that the percentage of students achieving the ‘gold star’ benchmark of five GCSEs including English / Welsh and mathematics has improved by 3% to 61%. This is the authority’s best ever performance, and is outstanding when the fact that Neath Port Talbot is the second most challenged Welsh local authority using free school meals as an indicator of deprivation is taken into account.

There have been good improvements in the percentage of students achieving A*-C grades in either English or Welsh as a first language and mathematics. The percentage of pupils who receive free school meals achieving the gold star benchmark of Level 2 including language and maths has also increased. A number of Neath Port Talbot’s schools have secured their best ever outcomes.
