The announcement by Virgin Media today that it plans to close its base in Swansea next year is dreadful news for our area.
I have written to the Cabinet Secretary for the Economy urging him to put in place measures to support those affected, in the period between now and the planned closure in Autumn 2019. The Welsh Government has in the past been able to support workers affected by this kind of closure into alternative employment.
This is obviously a very worrying time for those affected – and the news is no reflection on the Virgin workforce.
I would encourage anyone living in Neath constituency affected by the news to get in touch with my office on 01792 869993 and we will offer all the support we can.
